In 2022, Aaron S. Burgess became the ACO’s new conductor and music director, succeeding Steven Frackenpohl.

Aaron received a B.A. in music and a B.S. in education from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Music in Wind Conducting from Ithaca College School of Music.

Currently Aaron is lecturer of performance studies (conducting) and music education at Ithaca College where he serves as conductor of the Ithaca College Trombone Troupe, teaches instrumental music education and supervises student teachers. He also is resident conductor of the Ithaca New Music Collective and conductor of the Ithaca Community Orchestra.

Aaron has taught music in the Southern Cayuga Central School and Trumansburg Central School districts. He has commissioned and premiered numerous new works for winds, strings and percussion, guest conducted a wide array of ensembles and honor bands and presented programs on topics pertaining to conducting and instrumental music education.
