Steven Frackenpohl brings to the Auburn Chamber Orchestra a wealth of knowledge about conducting, music education, performance, and composition. Graduating from Ithaca College with a bachelor’s in music education and from Crane School of Music with a Master’s in Theory he taught public school for 35 years, retiring from the West Genesee School District in 2012. In addition to teaching and guest conducting All-County orchestras he is an experienced arranger and composer with over a dozen published works for string orchestra. As a violist, he performs with the Carousel String Quartet and has played with the Syracuse Camerata.
Steven lives in Skaneateles with his wife Sandi (a music teacher at Port Byron schools) where they raised their two children Abby and Alex. Steven was fortunate to be awarded a sabbatical in winter and spring of 2008; he and Sandi traveled to New Zealand, Australia and Japan to study music and teaching. He has been involved, as a Board member and stage manager, with the Skaneateles Festival for many years.
